Welcome to Pakse! In the late afternoon, your private guide will greet you at the airport and take you to board your Laos Mekong Island cruise. Enjoy a welcome cocktail as we begin to cruise down the Mekong River. During the next few days, indulge in Southeast Asian delicacies for dinner on board or an atmospheric barbecue on the riverbank.The rest of the day is free for you to relax on deck. Enjoy your dinner on board this evening.
Today, your cruise will stop and allow you to explore Wat Phu, a ruined Khmer Hindu temple complex located at the foot of Kao Mountain. This temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site with surviving structures dating from the 11th to 13th centuries. These ruins are among the most inspiring and mystical archaeological tour destinations of Laos.Once we return to the ship, we will continue to sail down the Mekong River. Enjoy the breathtaking views and sunset as we cruise deeper into the region known as the 4,000 Islands.
In this part of the Mekong, the river has its widest expansion of up to 16 km. When the water level declines during dry season, thousands of islands become visible above the surface. Some of these islands are tiny and uninhabited, others are larger and covered in their own mountains and forests. As we sail through the islands, you will have a chance to see the Khone Phapheng Falls, one of the biggest falls in Asia, and if you're lucky you may spot one of the Mekong's rare Irrawaddy river dolphins!The rest of the day is free for you to relax. Enjoy a farewell dinner aboard.
After breakfast, you will sadly say goodbye to your wonderful Laotian crew and prepare for your onward journey.
Notes: Every river cruise in Southern Laos is a pioneering experience and is subject to constantly changing river conditions, including floodwaters and shallows. Therefore please understand that we must reserve the right to alter the itinerary due to the logistical complexities involved. Small deviations in the program are sometimes necessary, depending on weather, local authorities and river and/or road conditions. For safety reasons and according to navigating conditions, these programs may be amended without previous notice.The cruise is also operated in the opposite direction starting with the city tour (arrivals until 12am) and the bus transfer to embark the Mekong Islands Cruise down south on day 1 at 2 pm. The same program will then be conducted from south to north. On day 4, no flights earlier than 13:30 pm from Pakse or 14:30 pm from UBP will be reached. If you plan an earlier flight, we’ll be happy to arrange an extra hotel night in Pakse to your itinerary to leave the next morning.
